What is a "Suburban XL"? Do you mean Suburban 2500? Or Yukon XL?

I think that $24k is kinda high either way. But I live in OK, where things are cheap :D

If it's only a 1/2 ton -Which I doubt, if it has the 6 liter- It will not be happy with that heavy of a load.

If it's the 2500....It should pull it without too many complaints. No winning races up steep hills, but it will do fine.

I have the 6.0L in my truck and it tows my 8500 lb trailer just fine. There are some longer hills that it will slow down on while going on the interstate but it pulls strong and carries the weight well.

I rarely tow with the cruise on because I like to get a "run" for the hills (3-5 mph). Using the cruise control, I would tell your dad that he will occaisionally see 5k RPM to maintain speed, but then again, he will be maintaining his desired speed.

I actually started up a long hill here in PA about 55MPH and I ran about 3/4+ throttle and the truck turned 5K + RPM all the way up, but I cleared the top at 72 MPH!!!
