Bakflip MX4 Alignment Issue

Recommended Posts

I just installed a BakFlip MX4 on my 2020 AT4 and I'm having a bit of an issue trying to get it aligned properly. Where I have in installed right now when I flip it up the middle part of one of the foldable sections sits on the third brake light and camera so the bumpers don't make it to the back window.  If I pull it back a little further I think the bumpers will touch the window but then it sits on top of the tailgate when closed.  The issue then is that it creates enough of a seal on the tailgate that the tailgate won't drop automatically and I need to pull on the tailgate to get it to drop rather than just hitting the button and having it drop.

Has anyone else had this issue?  If someone else has the MX4 with a newer Sierra can you take a picture so I can see how far the cover sits over your tailgate?

So, I have the MX4 on my 19 Silverado with the auto drop. There is a really slim margin for error, but even still, to create the seal, the tailgate may not always drop automatically. You can play with it some, thats what I had to do, but it does work. And for some reason it even works if I hit the auto drop a few times if it doesn’t come down on its own the first time.

Likely not much help, but I feel your pain and it will subside lol

Ya, I messed around with it last night. There seems to possibly be a 1mm sweet spot where the main tailgate may still open (the center part will not) without having to pull on it. The downside though is that it blocks more of the rear view camera that way. I’ve got it set now a little lower on the cab to block less of the camera but I do have to manually pull the gate down. I may continue to play with the positioning.

The other thing I noticed is that it is very difficult to unscrew the bolts to move it with those lock washers on there.

I installed the bakflip on my 2019 gmc sierra and I have the same issue. it will drop if i have the tailgate leaning downhill, but not on level ground. I'm hoping when it gets warmer the gasket will wear in some and not hold it as tight. TBH  I'm not too impressed with this cover compared to the undercover i had on my 18. it doesnt seem to be as high of quality and doest fit as well. I went with the bakflip because someone on here said it works and opens without hanging up, but not the case on my truck.

This is my first truck so I have nothing to compare it to.  I do actually like the cover except for this one issue.  I'm wondering if it is possible to increase the spring tension on the tailgate opener.  It does not take a lot of effort to pull it down so a little more spring tension would probably make it open automatically.
