Alternator Wiring When the Truck is OFF.

The voltage between the alternator b+ terminal and the positive battery post is ~12 volts when the truck is off (key off and out). Is this normal? All I can find is information on testing the alternator when the engine is running etc.

Yes, that is correct.

 

Then if you were to start the truck, that same wire would show the charging voltage that the alternator is putting out while running.
