anybody changed to a electric fan on a 1999 or 2000, i was wondering if that fan was alot more queit ,my factory fan is super loud.

I installed the flex-a-lite electric on my 03 and it is definitely quiet. Between that, the flowmaster exhaust and the volant intake I definitely got some seat of the pants power increase...

the flex a lite elec. fan for the 99up silverado is around 4-500 bux on truckperformance.com...that seems pretty outrageous for the hassle an elec. fan is...

 

what did you end up using as an elec. fan setup?

I have a Lincoln Mark VIII fan on my '03 Silverado. That coupled with the ProCold intake gave the engine a bunch more torque.

 

The fans can be had for under $200, new. You can find them for about $100 used on ebay, though.

 

They are rated at something like 5000 cfm. Plus, its' and OEM part so it has great reliability!

Just look for the 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII "fan motor" under cooling system. I think it's now $201.

 

It's an 18" fan with a huge motor. It draws some current, (like 60 amps on startup). I have it wired through a Siemens relay that is rated @ 40A @ 24 volts. So, for our 12v system, it's really like an 80A relay.

 

I also bought a Summit radiator/fan hold-down kit for $7. This is the best kit similar to this that I have seen.

How did you wire them up so they kick in when the engine temp gets so high? Also, did you do any other wiring, so they kick in when the air conditioner comes on, or when the pressures get so high?

I have 2 14 inchers and the factory cluctch still. Dont trust them just yet

I use the Flex-a-lite fans in both of my 8.1 trucks. Much quieter than the stock fan, better throttle response and the best part of all... a little bit better gas mileage! That was the main reason that I did this mod.
