Do you know if they ran the same pump in the 4.3 and the 5.7?

 

If it's the same pump, it will handle the 5.7 power output and not a ton more. Those TBI systems don't use a ton of fuel pressure compared to much newer trucks.

Just so you know, the pump for a ‘96-‘98 Vortec truck is a direct swap for the TBI pump. On my ‘94 5.7L I needed more pressure (16 psi) than the stock pump could put out so I used a pump for a ‘97.  I used an adjustable regulator to set my pressure. The TBI pump puts out 9-13 psi. Vortec pumps are around 50 psi. The pressure regulator controls the pressure at the throttle body and the excess fuel returns to the tank so the higher pressure pump works fine.
