Replace Factory Brake Controller with After Market

I recently purchase a 2015 Sierra 1500 SLE, and am now getting the trailer brake warning whenever I start it. Watching Youtube videos suggests it is either the control switch or Relay. Rather than replacing one or both of those, is there an easy way to just install to the P3 controller I already have form my last truck? Would a truck with th e factory controller installed be setup for a plug and play install? Any advice is welcome - thanks!
