Pioneer XM tuner backward compatibility??

Regarding Pioneer's current XM tuner non-fm modulated, the DEX-903XM.

I have read that the tuner is not only compatible with units that show XM ready, but also with units that have the following things:

1) P designation in the model number

2)a function or F button

3) 8 character display screen

 

Does anyone know whether this is actually true. I currently have a DEH-p8200r that I was considering replacing with a DEH-p850mp to get the XM option. I would like to know if this is possible that way I could get the XM without replacing my head-unit.

I have a Pioneer GEX-FM903XM installed in my 03 Silverado. Ia am using it with the FM Modulaor at present. I am wating for a Soundgate PIOGM1 I have back ordered to make the GEX-FM903XM work with my steering wheel controles. With the 903 you will also need a IP Bus Cable to connect it to the Soundgate PIOGM1 adapter. From what I have read your unit has the IP Bus, all you will need is the Soundgate PIOGM1 to get it to play through your factory Radio.

But I don't have the factory radio installed. I am running a Pioneer deh-p8200r. I was wondering if it will control the XM unit, I don't have the XM unit yet so it doesn't matter which one really. I have an extra IP -bus cable so which ever one is cheaper at the time. What I need to know is if the deh-p8200r is capable (even though it doesn't say XM ready) or if I need to upgrade to say a deh-p8500mp or deh-p850mp.
