Hi: I just purchased a '94 Silverado with (supposedly) 14k on a new engine & trans. I have the paperwork on the trans but not the motor, so I'm skeptical. Any way the problem is that when cold the oil pressure is 60-70, then after warming up it will drop to 45-50 while in gear and moving but drops to about 20-25 while at hot idle. I've read posts on here that say that's OK and others that say 20-25 is pretty low-I'm confused-also I would think that is pretty low if the engine is as new as I was told it was. Any advice would be appreciated as I love the truck and would like to keep it awhile. How about synthetic oil? would that increase the hot idle pressure? Thanks in advance!

Your oil pressure is perfect for what I assume is a 5.7L. I believe 10psi (or above) per 1000RPM would be considered "normal".

The newer engines (4.8,5.3,6.0 and 8.1L) have higher oil pressures due to their design...

Welcome to the forum!!!

I second Shaners reply!

Are you checking the oil pressure with a good gage? I'm leery of the OEM gage cluster. When in doubt, use an Autometer mechanical oil pressure gage.
