Got a chance to buy a GM Performance cold air intake from a friends 2019 Silverado High Country with a 6.2. I want to install it on my 2020 Sierra with a 6.2.

I know part numbers are different and the included flash is a one time thing so I know I  can't take it to the dealer for the included ECU flash.

So I have two questions.

1) Do I really need the flash? How would it be different than buying any other after market CAI and not having the ECU flashed?

2) Would the dealer flash the ECU but charge me?

Thanks in advance!

You need the reflash to let the ECU take advantage of the increase in airflow.

I doubt they'd be able to do it without the authorization code that came in the kit.  They have to call into GM and give them that one-time code and your VIN to get a reflash.
