Yesterday while driving a truck infount of me swerved and then rolled. It went off the road then back into traffic hitting me. I then had to help treat and extricate the driver from his truck as I'm a firefighter/EMT. After sending him on his way in an ambulance I got to look at my truck (2001 GMC SLE extended cab). The right bed side and the whole frount end were destroyed. Both airbags deployed, grill guard beyond broken, and possibly suspension damage. I think/hope they total it so I can get a 2002. It sucks having to work your own wreck, espicially when the other guys driving is what caused the whole mess. As he rolled, his truck bounced about 4 feet in the air. My truck is what stopped him from hitting all the other vehicles on the road. I knocked him back onto the shoulder.

Glad to hear your okay.  Sorry about the truck, I would be pretty pissed if mine was wrecked, but if anything good came out of your truck getting hit it was that it stopped him from going back out into the traffic and taking out even more vehicles that could have caused more injuries or worse.  Hopefully you will be back in a new 2002 GM soon.

That's a story you were lucky to be able to tell us.  I'm glad you are OK, and it sounds like you can thank your truck for that!!!

I agree that its good you weren't hurt, but that its also didn't go into traffic. look at what you said it did to your truck, and imagine the outcome it it had hit something like a Civic. Soory about your truck, HOpe you can get a 2002. Are there and options you'd correct from your last truck?(Like something you should've got, or didn't need)

Glad everyone ended up OK :(

Looks like your truck allowed you to walk away and help the other driver. Your truck just may have saved the lives of other drivers around you that day

It does suck having a wrecked truck, been there...

If they total it I will be going a little better. Get the 5.3 over the 4.8, towing package (just because), locking diff,  and anything else I can afford. I will keep my MTX sub set up and the tool box. The estimate was ordered yesterday. My insurance will total it at 65% of value. After much research the value appears to be $21750. Also I only owe about $15400 so that makes a nice down payment. Last time I got them down to about $22000 when I bought it new. So if I can come close to that this time I'll get the extra options and have a lower payment. I'll post later the estimate so you guys who havent wrecked one know just how much your looking at for two airbags, the frount end and a bed side.

Didn't someone say there is a law in some states that if your vehicle is less than a year old (new) and the wreck is more than a fender bender they have to replace it?  I never heard it before until I read on the forums.  Any have anymore info?

I know here, they take the blue book value and the total amount of damages and pay witch ever is cheaper.

I friend of mine just wrecked his 2001.  The bed and half of the cab was creamed.  We thought for sure it would be totaled.  No, they repaired it.  Replaced the bed and welded on part of the cab, all new paint.  It still doesn't drive the same and the paint job is crap.  He was a little more easy going about it then I would have been.

Well got the call today.................... the damages were about $13,000, so they totaled it.  And I got my dealer to order the 2002. Its just like I wanted as stated above. Tommorrow I remove the tool box and stereo stuff. Should be dealing with price and insurance payoff next 3 days, then do the new truck deal. So I hope by next week to have my brand new (again) ???  truck. This time I'm gonna give her a little more  :lookaround: POWER :( . Hope the wife don't notice that my down payment isn't as much as the check from the insurance. Gotta pay for the upgrades ya know!

Congrats (kinda not a good thing to say) but you got what you want at least.  Good things do come out of bad situations
