Update on my truck/deer problem...

Well I got a call today from the bodyshop. My truck has more damage than first thought. The body, grille, bumper, and lights are finished, now they are just finishing up the suspension/steering components. Originally they were hoping it was just an alignment problem, total costs about $1600. Today they said not only was the alignment off, but they had to get a new "part" of the steering column, new steering box, new idler arm, pitman arm, sway bar and end links, steering linkage, and an alignment kit to get my tires to get my tires perpendicular to the road instead of / \. Between the steering column part, steering box, and alignment kit it was a little over $1100. The lady didn't have a final cost, but with labor she figured it would be around $4K. Good thing I only have to pay $500 for the deductable! Like an idiot I forgot to get any before pics. So basically I have a completely new front end. Chris

Phew....thank goodness for insurance. As I noted in your original post, it is really hard to give an accurate price to fix something until you get it torn apart and can inspect every little inch. At least it's only $500 out of your pocket. Too bad you couldn't get like an Escalade clip or something put on the front....that would rock the house!!!

Hehe, did you pack up the deer and put it in the freezer? For $500, I'd be getting something out of it....hehe.:D:seeya:

Yeah, it's good to be insured! I didn't get anything from the deer, there wasn't much left worth getting. I could go into details, but I'll spare those who don't want to know. I'll put it this way, she was bruised and beat up worse than all the Rocky movies combined! Chris

God I hate DEER!!! Somebody needs to integrate a Deer Avoidance System in new GM trucks. Have a Deer sensing radar dome behind the grille. Upon sensing a deer in the vehicles immediate path of travel, countermeaures are deployed. Countermeasures being a couple of Hellfire missiles that pop out of the bed. And in case that doesnt do the trick.... The DAS (Deer Avoidance System) is connected to US Defense computers as a failsafe in case the missile doenst hit its intended target. Therefore launching GPS guided bombs at said deer before you hit it....... And this all happens withing a few seconds.......... God I hate deer!!

I see you love those furry creatures! For real, have you ever tried any of those "deer whistlers"? I guess you can put them up near your front grille and when you are driving, the wind passes through them giving off a high pitch noise that deer can hear and will help avoid them from jumping in front of you.

It's been awhile since I've seen any, but they were cheap...like a couple of bucks.

Whoa! Is that sarcasm??? Yes I know what a deer whistle is. I had 2 in my dam grille when I hit one! Guess they worked pretty good.

Right on, I will happily pay for the DAS option. This could easily be integrated into the OnStar that most of us never use anyway.

Last month a local Tree Hugger was whining about all those poor innocent deer getting murdererd. You know the type: ban the guns, ban the SUV's and pickup trucks, make us all live in Soviet Union style concrete apartment buildings, give criminals all the rights, blah blah blah

He nailed a deer at 65 and is still in the hospital. Who says Poetic Justice doesn't exist?? YEE HAW!

About the only deer I like is John Deere. That is a seriously cool tractor!

BTW The Hellfire missile option would be good for those ignorant/arrogant young drivers with a cellphone glued to their ear who weave through traffic at 87 MPH, cut you off, then slow to 48 MPH to enter something urgent into their Palm PDA
