hey everyone,

Got the 4.3L inspected the other day. I have a little rattle under my floorboard when drive is in gear. I'm almost positive its my cat. He told me that my truck had really high amount of Hydrocarbons. Does anyone know what could cause this?? Bad Catalytic Converter? Dirty Air Filter? There are both things I could have. Could this effect my gas mileage? How much?

In case your wondering...

HC- 144 (147 is legal)

CO - .17 (1.24)

NOx - 456 (990)

What everyone think?

Generally a bad "cat" is a result of a bad O2 sensor. You might want to look at those first. Of course if it has been going on a long time your catalytic converter could be about shot.
