Well this will be my first new truck. I have Schaeffers oil. Well for this 21 would you run ams, Schaeffers or delo all would be in 5w-40 weight. Looking for a synthetic oil.

All three of these oils are synthetic assuming you mean AMSOIL when you typed ams, and they all three differ in base oil.

Schaeffers is a Group III/(+) synthetic with a very good additive package.

Chevron Delo 400 is a Group III+ whose synthesis involves an ISOcracking/dewaxing and a proprietary Chevron catalyst. The process delivers an exceedingly clean stable base stock. Also a great additive package. Awesome soot dispersion.

AMSOIL SS diesel oil is a Group IV/V blend with once again a great add package.

In an L5P anyone of these could be the backbone of a very good oil maintenance program. Then intrinsic difference in the base oils is in thermal decomp onset temperature. It is small but noteworthy.

OCI and filtration are IMHO and in such a case, more important than the differences between the three listed oils.

An ISO 4406 cleanliness test carries allot of weight in determining the OCI...not just a TBN.
