Scott Hoover Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Hello, Looking for suggestions on my issue. 98 k1500 is in 4 lo and will move forward to about 35 miles per hour but has no reverse and when I try the buttons for 2wd or 4 hi they just flash. I think I might have multiple issues with trans and the transfer case. Any thought? Thanks
Brian Lindsey Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 not sure about reverse , but light flashing on 4x4 switch could be just a bad switch , do you hear the transfer case switch gears
Scott Hoover Posted April 1, 2021 Author Posted April 1, 2021 nope. They just flash for about 10 seconds and then stop
alpinecrick Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 (edited) Yes, those are two different issues. Don't know about reverse, but usually when one gear goes it's getting time for a trans rebuild. First, just in case you're not aware, the truck will not shift in or out of 4 Lo until the truck is stopped and in neutral (sometimes they will shift when in Park though). The flashing shift button light is telling you the actuator is not engaging the front axle. You ost likely need a new actuator. This is a common problem with the thermal actuators. The electric actuators are more reliable and shift engage the axle almost instantly. They do not like to be immersed though. The electric version requires a new wiring harness and can be a challenge to route the wiring back to the cab. Edited April 6, 2021 by alpinecrick
