265/70/17

Just got a pair of the 04 stock 17''''s wondering what size tires to run and if any ill affects on the truck going to the 285/70's, if anyone is running this size are there any clearance problems on a stock Z71 please post pictures if any, and where to get 285/70's cheap?

I've only got 16's with 285/75 and that and 305/70 is the largest you can go. Basically 33 in diameter without a lift so if you use bigger wrims smaller tires.

I have a 2003 1/2 ton with 17x8 centerline rims. 285/70/17 would not fit on my truck. The front tires would rub on the lower bumper molding when the tires were turned. Now my truck might sit lower than yours because it does not have the z71 option(?). You could always crank up the torsion bars or get a 2" leveling body lift for the front end, which I should have done but I went with the 265/70/17 BFG's instead, which look good but the 285's would look better. Hope this was of some help.

I've seen many people put 285/75/16's on stock rims and that's what I am going to do. I'm putting 285 BFG All Terrain TA KO's on my stock 16" 4x4 rims and from all the research I have done no one has had any problems on the stock rims. Some have tweaked the torsion bars and others have not. Just after the New Year I'll be getting mine done!

but in your post you ask if anyone was running 265's. what happened to that size? so you will know, GMC Sierra Denali comes with 265R70.17 tires on the grround! Factory/standard. here tho is what else the do. the 17's on the ground are Goodyear Wrangler HT the spare is a Brookstone 16"

I'm ordering 285/75/16 BFG All Terrain TA KO's for my 03 tomorrow. I have the 16x7 aluminum wheels and the 285's will fit.

i have an'04 gmc sierra z71 and 265/70/r17 is what comes stock. i talked to a mechanic at the dealer when they raised my torsin bars and he said that they have to raise the torsion bars for the 285/70/r17 and 285/75/r16, and that is it. but for the 305/70/r17 and 305/70/r16 they have to do a lot aof trimming, but they will fit and you will have some rubbing. i test drove one of thier 04's with the 305's on it and there was minumal rubbing in full travel but they said it best not to put that big because of excessive wear. but the 2500 was factory lifted higher and it was not a problem for those models.
