Text messages read aloud.

My 2018 1500 would alert me to an incoming text when on Android auto. I could press the OK button on the steering wheel and it would read it aloud to my and it would also show up on the DIC who it was from. I will get the alert on my 21HD, but it will not read it aloud. Am I missing something here?

GM removed the native text message feature/app at a point on the 2019 lines going forward. I just talked to GM about it and they said it was removed & no longer supported and their solution was to use android auto or apple carplay as the solution. Not very helpful since you have to have your phone plugged into on the 2019 to get the messages via either of the two platforms.  They gave a BS line about they could release a new feature at some point to replace the old messaging app (never will happen) but they said plugging in your phone was a much better option for features on my truck. It sounded like they lost their rights to to use this app since they removed it for some 2019's that already had it that were made in early 2019.

Well that sucks!  I had that feature on my 2015 and really liked it.  I was wondering if I was missing something in the settings to get it to work like my old truck, but I guess not.  Stupid they would regress and remove such a great feature.  I can't stand using Android Auto or Carplay, it tries to take over too much which I don't like.  Plus keeps defaulting to my phone navigation and doesn't play music how I like when it is connected.  Oh well, I guess it's a small gripe since I really like everything else about the truck.

If you have a Samsung phone you can have Bixby read your txts.  I have routines set up when I'm connected to certain bluetooth devices it turns that feature on.  If you don't have Samsung you can have google assistant read them as well.  Probably a way to set that up automagically but before Bixby I just told assistant to read last text message.  Granted I have a 2009 so if I'm not connected to my BT dongle thingie it comes out of the phone and not over the truck's speakers.
