so i have a 2014 silverado with the 5.3l in it. right now i am sitting at 52k miles on the od.

so last september i had an issue fixed with the truck at the dealership it was near the end of september of 2020..

so i had rodent damage to the ac box and it was leaking water into the passenger side floor board.

insurance claim was done and they paid for the issue at the dealership.. well the shop was like 3 weeks behind

and by the time i got it out of the shop we had severl cool fronts and the temps were not that hot i think it was like 75 the day i got the truck back..

and it seemed to cool just fine and i didnt think anything of it to be honest..

so here it is nearly july in texas were seeing 100 degree temps out and it acts like it hardly wants to blow any cool air..

but now keep in mind when the temps are in low 80s 70s etc  it blows cool air just fine and great..

the hotter it gets the less it wants to blow cold air..

ive explained this to the dealership and what has happend they recalled working on my truck.

they dot really recall if the topped off the refregerant or not  and said it would be a month before they can even look at it..

and of course if its something they didnt have any dealing with them id be out the money he said they would tear it apart again

that bill the insurance paid was like 3200$ im trying to keep from going that distance

so could this be a freon issue could it be low    ?

could it be a leak some where like many of the 14s and 15s had with the condensor?

i dont get paid till friday i may get one of the 25$ guages at the auto parts store and check the freon.

just trying to get some ideas here if it could be low freon or other issues

There's "if's" when it comes to AC.

** don't use those cheap guage. It doesn't give you accurate reading.

First measure both high and low ports for pressure. Low pressure could mean low freon or leak. To test for leak, you would need to pull negative pressure.

Now comes the "if's"

If your system is holding pressure. It could be due to a bad condenser or fan. Does it blow cold air at high speed? Spray condenser with water, the first few minutes of driving should be blowing cold air.

If pressure is to high, does your car shake when idle/complete stop? Could be overcharged causing compressor to not work properly. Could also be bad condenser and or fan not cooling the freon.

If one side is higher then normal, there's a clog.

The most important part is measure pressure for both side.

You mentioned that they don't recall if they top off the refrigerant or not. You should probe into what was done when they fixed your AC box. Was the AC line ever open? If so, "topping off" is not doing anything,  it needs to be vacuum and recharge.

I have a hard time trusting dealership.  Thier goal is to get money from you at all cost!

with the ac at high speed it doesnt seem to blow any cooler air then what it does on medium or  low..

little guage stuck in the vent the air doesnt get any colder than about 82 or so thats when its 93 out side..

my mechanic buddy will be home with his guage set this weekend..

im going to see if he will test the high and low pressure..

ill call dealership tomorrow an see if they recall having the lines open.. they replaced that entire box behind the dash

id think they would have had the lines open

i did barrow a neighbors little 20$ guage  from orielly aand it was showing in the green right almost at the 50 mark...

ill let my buddy with his good set of guages test it saturday

no  not really  if im on the highway  and had to pass someone   at 80  or so  it seems blow hot for a bit

Make sure your AC button is pressed (should light up). If you have dual climate, make sure they are in sync. I know these steps sound stupid but it's worth checking.

Check to see if compressor is running, if it runs then check for pressure.

the ac button is pressed the dual digital climate control is in sync..

i get condinsation on the ground << forgot to mention in orig post i apoligise

when i get on the trottle real head  i do get hot air

10/4  yeah my buddy will be here  sat ill have him check

it just baffles me lol that it condinsates and stuff lol

i can trun it down to like 61 and the air in there dont get below 80

    • Yes that's right, it's the upgrade that includes the overload spring and all that stuff.   Someday when I'm empty and going by a scale I'm going to stop in and get some weight readings.   Exactly  you should have the ability to change individual settings, in in Canada so I'm driving with kph but then I'm stuck with kpa when I want psi lol
    • You must have that upgraded gvw package which is only available or at least was in 2025 with the diesel engine for the 3/4 ton and that gave the truck physically the larger 12.0 ring gear rear diff and the 3500 rear spring pack. There is a difference in what the diff housing looks like externally as one tell tale and also your truck should have the upper overload spring pack and the frame pads that the pack goes up against.    The pressure the tpms system kicks the alarm in on a stock setting truck, that is a good question and was just from what I recall but I doubt I made any notes on it as I knew for the rear that it was not at all what I was after regardless either. Being that you have a diesel and if running on stock tires the minimum pressure on an empty truck seems to be around 50 psi from hearing of those that have weighted the front axle but the rear axle is very similar in weight to a gas truck and again a near empty truck on the rear could go down to 35 pounds at minimum. However the weigh scale is the proper way to know for sure as a guide.    As to changing the readings on the dash from metric to the US measuring system, oh yes that is done easily but what I was attempting to explain was that I can't pick and choose items I want to have in US and those I still want in the metric system at the same time as its either all or none. For example lets say you drove into Canada and switched your dash over to metric so your speedometer read in km an hour, well then your reading kilopascals on your tpms readout and your wife looks over and says what the hell is that saying in the tpms screen and you say "darned if I know, I think its Chinese" !
    • This is partly why I decided to have switched over to Amsoil SS as a way of hopefully preventing the buildup of the sludge/carbon on the pistons and clogging of the oil control rings and the carbon that would cause the compression rings to stick in their grooves as well as stay cleaner up top of the heads in the valve train in the first place, an oil that has tested better by third party testing over typical shelf oil and also doing my best to run relatively short OCI. However in saying that I don't think there is any way to easily prove the oil I was using prior allowed for a buildup at the OCI I was doing, nor in the other direction to make claims the Amsoil is keeping everything clean either. There really isn't a window into the engine is there to know anything for certain even if oil samples were taken for example that showed still healthy oil being dropped out of the oil pan other than engine tear downs that extensive and expensive testing of oils does to actually visually see what is really going on inside the engine. I wish there was some easy method of seeing what is going on but I don't happen to be aware of that if there is.
    • My truck is a ¾ ton but my placard also says 80 for the rear tires, I think I might have the upgraded suspension to the 3500 series maybe.   I put my air down to 60 and the light was still on, and there was no way I was putting over 60 psi in the rear empty and not towing because I knew the actual number Toyo gave me and I didn't wanna ruin the center of my tires!   And you actually can change it in the settings from metric or is and it will show kph or mph then when you go into your tire settings it will be either psi or kpa, but it would be nice to just change it directly on the tire psi page
