Driver side running boards

My Gmc Sierra 2500hd Duramax drivers side running boards have stopped working. When you open the door the boards revert up instead of going all the way down and when you close the door the board will act as if they are going down. Is there an easy fix to this? My passenger side has no issues only the drivers side is having the problem.
