I've decided I eventually want a site of my own put up in the not-so distant future.

You guys that have sites (Like MountaineerTom and Jon for instance).

Howmuch does your web hoster charge, and are there free ones out there?

General, go to 1and1.com right now they are running a promotion for 3 years of free hosting for there premium plan. It's an awesome deal and I highly suggest you sign up for it. They don't need a credit card when you sign up either. I signed up for an account since I know I'll need another site for my portfolio and free is good. Plus for 6 bucks a year (also insanely cheap) you can get a .com addy as well.

The 1and1 thing sounds awesome, but I dunno about the 29 bucks per month afterwards.

I'm leaning towards the $6 a year deal.

yeah, but that's in three years. That's a long time to have to worry about that and besides, then you can just find a different place.

One of those things I'll have to think about over the next few days.

One thing thatcrssed my mind, I don't want my site to look like I built it,I don't want it to look "professional".

If what I saw at 1and1 is any indication, I don't want my site to look that way.

you build your site to look however you want it? I guess I don't understand what you're saying.

you start off with a blank page and you can make it look however proffesional or unproffesional you want. It's all a matter of your design skills/taste/etc...

Sorry for the delay Jeremy, I must have missed this thread.

The homestead account I use is $80 a year, but me and StepsideZ split the cost.

I'm not sure if they still have a free account or not.

I've been wanting to do this too! So I will check out 1and1.com

Question though, what is a good program for webdesigning that a computer illiterate f*ck like myself can work, upload pictures and MPG's too, and make look semi-professional?

I know Microshaft Frontpage is one, but their designs scream "I'm a newbie who just learned how to access the net!" so I don't want that.

i use macromedia dreamweaver (in combination with photoshop, flash, and illustrator to create the layout and what not).

I dunno for a noob though, kinda hard to jump into any of those programs for a "proffessional" site, but you can easily make a site and have it look good, proffessionalism is highly over rated.

Also check with your internet service provider, I get 10Mb of free web space with my DSL package. They didn't tell me about it when I signed up, read it in the fine print of the contract. I just called up tech support and they set me up.

I use mine for hosting images, but someday may build a webpage.
