Hard start when engine warm

Well I have a 96 hoe with 99,000 miles on her, she runs like a top untill I shut her down. If I try to start her right away she fires up. If I go into a store or somethine and am gone for longer than 3 mins, she cranks and cranks for roughly 6 or 7 seconds than fires up. Sometimes after firing up the SES light came on for random misfire. I have replace the fuel filter ran some injector cleaner, did a full tune up except for new coil. Still doing it. Could the coil be breaking up when hot?? Anybody have any experience with this???

try turning the key to run for a couple of secs to let the fuel pressure build up before you turn the starter on.

hmm, I had the same exact problem you are describing with my '83 Ski Nautique. The engine would heat up after I turned it off for a little while since no water was running through the heads and it was a real bear to get it started again after it sit for more than a couple minutes. The problem went away after I replaced the starter and the distributor and had the points done. Never really isolated exactly what was the root of the problem though. Good luck.

i had the same problem. recently. first i changed the fuel pressure regulator. that didnt work so i went with a new fuel pump - and that fixed it...

Most likely one of those 2 things. Unfortunately the regulator requires upper intake removal to get to. Not as easy to check as the NBS ones.

The same thing happened to my "97 Suburban; turned

out to be the fuel pump. Replaced under warranty.

The fuel pump on the "Vortec" central port injected motors have a lofty pressure requirement. I forgot the spec, but I believe it's around 60psi. If the pressure isn't high enough, the injector poppets (also could be a problem, which there was a silent recall for) will not open.

The check valve in the fuel pump is bad, so the fuel is running back into the tank, what is left in the lines is vaporizing, so when you turn the key, the pump starts but has to move all that vapor first. When it's cold, the vapor pressure is lower and the fuel can run to the injectors. We used to call it vapor lock, on those hot days. Try turning the key to run a couple of times before starting, if you notice the pump runs to pressurize the system, maybe that will make it easier starting until you can drop the tank.
