jhm Posted January 2, 2004 Posted January 2, 2004 Last week I noticed the voltmeter reading about 17 volts all the time. Knowing there was only a week left on the warranty I bought it in. Sure enough the alternator had bad diodes. They put in a new one and I told them about the strange situation when idling thru a parking lot, as I attempted to speed up, there was now power to the wheels. They checked the codes and did a pressure test but found nothing wrong. They said maybe the tranny couldnt decide what gear it should be in or maybe the bad alternator was screwing up signals to/from the computer. I figure at least it is documented that it did happen so if the tranny has problems in the near future they may cover it. The guys said I may get a report card from GM and asked me not to blame them for the 10 or 12 things I had to have fixed over the last 18 months. They said blame the product, not us. I told them they did fine fixing things, cant hold them responsible for cheap parts used in the truck.
