Drinking and Driving Has Gotta Stop

Off Road Red

On Saturday morning 5 of my friends were driving home from a party in thier 1990 Chev C1500 regular cab, they were all drunk and decided to race a Blazer on the highway.  They were going 180Kmh (about 110 mph) when the balzer slammed on the brakes in front of the truck. My buddy that was driving cranked the wheel to try to miss the Blazer, they ended up rolling an estimated 10 times.  They were all thrown from the cab through the windows (no seatbelts).  One girl(my friend) was crushed by the truck and killed instantly, another girl had the truck land on her leg, everyone else ended up in laying in the ditch unconcius for an hour till some one came along.  2 of the people are in critical condition but are suspected to live, the other 2 are in local hospitals with the normal "road rash" types of injurys.  This kind of thing could have been prevented, but choices were made and lessons were learned, and in a town of 2000 people were everbody knows everbody the whole town is upset.

That is terrible.  The choices people make can be devastating.  This sounded like a couple of really stupid choices to drink and drive and then to race.   :D

Sorry for your loss.

My wife and I have never had children. But speaking in general. We must learn to teach our children well. What's really cool and what is not. They do learn from example.

That's yet another tragic example of drinking and driving.  I'm really sorry for your loss.  If the survivors were laying around for an hour after the accident then the blazer must have taken off.  That's pretty sad too.  It seems unlikely that the Blazer didn't see the accident.  I hope they are caught.  It's probaby a crime to leave an accident scene where you live as it is in the US.  Hopefully the accident (tragic as it is) will prevent some others from making the same mistake.

I'm very sorry to hear about your friends.  drinking and driving is something that shouldn't happen and I for one am glad that the punishments for it are so strict.  Heck, they should be even more strict if you ask me.  One of my friends goes out drinking almost every weekend and either drives home or gets a ride home from someone who is less drunk.  I tell him all the time to just call me for a ride home and I'll drop what I'm doing to get him home safe.  I just hope that I don't hear a story like this about him.

Drinking and driving is so prevelant and im willing to bet that some of the members here do it.

Some of my best friends drink and drive and i cant stand it!

I tell them all the time, but do they listen? No.

If i drink, its one or two beers at home cuz my friends brought them over, so i dont ever drink and drive.

Some people just cant have a good time without have a buzz.  :D

No one really knows for sure why they got cut off.  A little update for guys, it looks like the 2 people who were in critical pulled through and are going to make it.

Sorry to hear of your loss.  It really sucks to lose friends, especially like this.

When I was younger, we used to do a lot of partying.  I drove home so hammered I didn't even remember how I got home.  Boy! was that stupid.  Everytime I hear of a drinking accident, I am reminded of how lucky I am.  What stopped me was when several of my friends were killed in a one car drinking accident (5 people in a Conquest TSI, car was torn in 1/2, 4 died).  I hope others learn from the loss of your friends.
