I've picked a college

Well High School will be over very soon(and school was finally fun this year!), and I'm pretty sure I've picked my collee for next year. It's where I will be going starting the fall 2004 semester, unless something happens, or I decide to go to the local community college for the first year to save money(Which might just happen if I can't stop doing stuff to my car, you guys know I'm a modification addict)

OSU, Oklahoma State University. I meet all the requirements, and it's my favorite college as far as sports go. Probably has to do mainly with the fact that my brother went there. He went to the local community college first to save some $$$, but talking to him, he wishes he would have gone straight to OSU b/c of the "experience". I will be paying for about 98% of it myself, so I want to have the first year or two of tuition save up before I start, which I might be able to pull off if I spend practically nothing untill august(yeah right,m like tahts gonna happen, I want those wet okole seat coers!). But I already have a head start, so I should be ok on that front.

I qualify for zero scholarships . I come "close" on most of the though, owhich makes it worse. My brother told me to research their waviers, he siad there is one I might be able to get hat they had when he was there for 750 off a semester!

Just out of curiousity, what would be your 2nd choice if you couldnt get into OSU?

I'm pretty much going to get in, I meet all requirement, and my admission form will be mailed 3 weeks before the deadline for "first chance" type processing. IF I didn't, maybe the local community college for a year, or K-State, maybe.

As a hiring manager, I will actually hire someone who has gone to a highly-rated business school as opposed to someone who attended a prestegious, and wel-to-do sports school (providing both candidates are equal).

My advice - determine what you want to do first (If you have no clue, then which school you choose isn't that important yet). After you've determined what you want to do, pick a school that caters to that particular field. A lot of new-to-college students will pick a college simply because it has a prestegious name. In most cases, this isn't a bad idea, as most prestegious schools focus heavily on academics as well, but in some cases, you're actually better off going to a smaller, niche oriented school. Take a look around first (as I'm sure you already have). If you have the luxury of doing so, take a look outside of your region. Talk to hiring managers, former students, call a business that you'd like to work for some day. These things will help make the decision easier.

Actually the degree I want to pursue, for now, is political science. IT requires Pre-Law and poltical classes mostly, two things I'm very interested in. Ad I did some number crunching, and unless I get a big scholarship, I'm not going after all. I can only afford a local community college right now to get me started. But, The carrer field that appeals most to me right now is law enforment, and the OK police Corps are offering 30,000 scholarships to people seeking to get a degree then enter Oklahoma law enforcement(you must sign a service agreement). That would pay roughly 3/4 of OSU for 4 years. BUT, If I apply now, I won't get an asnwer until June, which would be a little late for applying to OSU. I don't know if I should send in my admission app. to OSU or not now, b/c if If I didn't get a scholarship, I'm not going, for a least 2 years. Should I apply anyway, even if I can't go?

send it in! better to eat the small application fee now and decide later that it isnt going to work out, rather than not being able to go later cause you didnt apply. once you get accepted, you can talk with the financial aid people at the school as well. there is a lot of money for college to be had out there thru school programs, gov't loans /grants etc. dont give up yet just thinking it is too expensive...
