I thought I would share a recent event.  A couple of weeks ago, I changed my oil (5,200 miles).  The truck has about 23,000 miles on it so I took this opportunity to collect some oil and send it off for analysis.  Got the report back and they found that there was 4.5% fuel in the oil.  Wow!  Viscosity was going down, no metal or any wear material noted.

I started to keep an eye on the oil level after that change found the level increasing above the full mark.

Took into the dealership and they found that the high pressure fuel pump was leaking fuel into the crankcase.  Fortunately, (after being told the part was on backorder forever) the pump came in yesterday and was replaced.

I am thankful that I did the analysis as I would not have been tuned into there being a problem otherwise.  Yeah, I know I should keep an eye on the dipstick, but...will certainly do it now

Will you be running a second verification test?

Yup, going to run another one when I get a few more miles on this oil batch.

UPDATE:

Ran the oil through the summer, and had tested again...still 4% fuel in oil.  Truck is in shop and they are going to replace all fuel injectors as there is one or more that are not holding pressure and leak down at night.

Parts on order and will get the truck back on Friday at the latest.
