Wind noise from extended cab qtr glass ?

Recommended Posts

I'm getting some wind noise from the left qtr glass on my 1999 NBS extended cab. I seem to remember there was a bulletin on this from GM. Does anybody know what the fix is? Is there anyway to adjust the latch for a tighter seal. These latches seem very weak to me. What are your thoughts?

I had mine repaired in '99 when I bought it. They replaced the glass, seal and latch. Took them all day. The TSB on it is 99-08-48-001A. Here is a link to all TSB for that model year. http://www.alldata.com/TSB/11/991133FY.html

Did it fix the problem? I had the same problem in my 1999 and they spent all day fixing the drivers side. 2 weeks later it was the passanger 9 months later it was whistling again. I got rid of the truck and bought my 02. Last night I noticed with her all locked up and the heater full blast she was starting to whistle on the drivers side.

You would think they would find a permanent fix.

Does anyone have a pad supscription to that alldata to get the full details of the fix? There are some items on there that I've experienced also and was wondering the full extent of the problems.

Like the rattle in the Passenger tweater!!

It is fixed, but if the side windows are opened and closed, they will whistle for a couple of hours and eventually stop until they are opened and closed again.

I have an account with GM's service website. If you need some info let me know. It is a more detailed site than Alldata. http://service.gm.com/index_en-US.html

I've had very little problems with unwanted noise in my truck. I've only had the wind noise around the rear window, a rattle around the CD player and it has just developed a rattle in the driver's door.

I have the same wind noise problem. One side window was replaced under warranty. However, they are both noisy now. The deisgn is bad. The hinge is just a couple of 2 inch long plastic clips that are part of the gasket that is glued on the glass. The clips fit over plastic bars on the window frame. You can pop these so called hinges off on and rotate the window at the latch to take the window off. I would not recommend this as you could separate the glass from the gasket before the clips pop off.

My truck is not under warranty any more, so I need to figure out how to tighten the seal or replace the windows. My problem is the plastic clip hinges are warped (Texas heat) and the gasket with the clips is becoming un-glued from the glass. The glass does not seal good at the front side.

Does anyone sell after market window replacements?

Yeah, if anyone has the fix I'll take it. 99 out of warranty for a long time. Been doing it for a while but unfortunately out of warranty when it started. I've been tempted to use a silacone sealer on them by opening the window, adding the sealer and then closing the window. Some days it makes louder noise than others. Also noticed that if you slam the doors the passanger one will actually pop open to let out the cab pressure out and then pop back in.

I need a cheap fix!

Definately a cheap design. You'd think that after 5 years of this problem GM would fix it. My passenger's side qtr window glass separated from the rubber seal at the point where it attaches to the frame. They had a glass guy replace the whole assembly. I wonder why they don't attach the hinges to the glass with those little buttons that show on the other side like they did in the previous body style? I wish they could just glue the glass to the body of the truck like they do the rear window and the windshield. That would solve the problem completely. Who cares if the vent window doesn't open? But, it's probably a safety thing about having to be able to kick the window out in an emergency, or something. :D

Mine whistle as well. I have thought of using clear silicone and sealing mine shut since I never open them anyway. Haven't done it yet though.
