Hi, I have a 2002 Sierra 1500 5.3L.  There are plenty of pictures online of that 17 mm hex plug on the driver's side. Does anyone know the size and type of engine block drain plug that resides on the passenger side?

I don't recall there being a drain on that side. You can drain the cylinder head though, there usually is a plug on the head where a temp sensor could go.

Cam is right; usually to drain the block you just pull the lower radiator hose, be sure to have a container underneath the hose's location. The coolant may or may not fall directly down so I like to use those 5 inch tall containers they sell at Wal Mart and like places. Sometimes you might keep clothing in them, that kind of thing. They make great drip pans and catches. They are pretty resistant to oil and solvents.
