What Do You Tell The Dealer NOT To Do

When you order your truck and before it comes in, what do you tell the dealer NOT to do, i.e. no drilling or gluing of dealer name tags on the tailgate, no washing or buffing by the service dept?

Well, tell them not to smash it up like had happened to another member

But, I would ask that they not put there dealer plates on it and also ask them to leave off there sticker from the tailgate.

I've bought over ten cars (new) from the same salesperson at the same dealership over the past decade or so. He knows me better then my G/F does. When I went in to order my truck all I had to do was pick the color, sign the order, and put a down payment for them to build it. He knows what trim, options, engine/trans and what other driveline toys I want.

When the truck (or car for that matter) comes in, he himself takes it off the truck and parks it out back puts a "SOLD.....DO NOT TOUCH" sign on the dash and I'm the one that removes the protective wrap outside, remove shrinkwrap from steering wheel, carpeting and seats on the interior and PDI's the vehicle for delivery.

It doesn't get washed, it doesn't get waxed or buffed, it doesn't get a dealer sticker put on, ####, no one but he and I see the vehicle.

After PDI'd and I sign the papers and away I go, dirty truck and all. The only thing I can eliminate from this process would be for me to take it off the transport myself.

I have asked them not to put any name tags on or the front plate holders (not required in my state) or detail it. Usually they are pretty good at honoring my request. The guys I've dealt with have done the same for me as CMNT's salesman has done for him.

I asked them not to clean it or put the emblem on the back. They did prep the inside and did put the emblem on.

I gave them #### about the emblem but don't figure they hurt anything cleaning the windows and such.

You guys won't believe this, but I like the Dealer Emblems.

They give the vehicle more unique Characteristics, IMO.

Dealer Emblems are simply dealer advertisements.

I'll leave it on if they pay me. Shoot nearly every dealer will try to add on an "ad cost" to your truck anyway.

When I get mine they are already setting on the lot, I have never special ordered a vehicle! But I do not let them wash it, dont let them put their liceance on, and dont let them put a dealer decal on the tailgate. I am also the one to rmove the window sticker and all of the other stickers on the glass such as barcodes and stuff!!!

Yep I'm just about like SilveradoWV. I've never needed to order a truck-I've always been able to find what I'm loking for on the lot. The dealership where I've bought the last 3 Chevys always has about 30 or 40 pickups on the lot, so why go through the hassle and wait of ordering.

Back to the original question-I always make sure they put the window sticker in the glove box & get the inside of the winshield/windows real squeaky clean. I can't stand it when you get that oily film on the glass that makes a glare when the sun or streetlights hit it at a certain angle-seems like it's always on there when the truck comes out of the factory for some reason. I don't mind a dealership sticker on the vehicle as long as it's not flashy or too big.

I've never ordered a new one either. Only had three that I bought brand new. When I do take a serious look at a new vehicle. I find one with everything I want on it. Then I make sure it doesn't have more than the five or six miles it came off the transporter with. If you read the thread about test drives you know why.

Dealer emblems don't bother me to bad as long as they are from who sells that particular make. If you drive a used Chevy with a big "City Ford" emblem on the tailgate thats just wrong ???

I do plan to fly to Newton NC to drive back my new Z06 Vette. Proudly displaying the Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet emblem.

i dont mind them cleaning it(i've always known the guys in recon anyway so they do it right and thave never had a problem)

but i have refused a delivery until they took off the dealer nameplate, i cant stand them, luckly they didnt even try to put one on my sierra, my old s10 however came right off and back to recon to reclean the tail gate

Problem around here though is that most dealers are part of "groups." By that I mean, that if one dealer line sells ford, they also sell Chevy/Other GM, Chrysler, import and many have all of them.

For instance, Don McCue where I buy mine from started with one Chevy dealership back in the late 70's, but now has the one Chevy dealer and two Lincoln-Mercury dealers (known as Nigri McCue). But before they made it Nigri McCue (which is a long story), the license plate frames had the Chevy, Geo (remember them?), Lincoln, and Mercury logos on it.

I think I could count the stand alone dealers on one hand

This might sound stupid... But why don't you let them wash the new truck??? My brother just picked up a new GMC Envoy and the detail work look pretty darn good to me. I still want to wash it myself and wax it... But their job did look pretty good no marks on it at all...

I for one can not stand the dealer name tags on the back either... I spent an hour getting one off my truck.. The next truck I buy will not have one on it... When I order the truck I am going to tell them not to put it on... I am going to make sure they get the point too... Heck I might even tell them to stick a truck if they don't follow through with my request to not put one on...

My parents can not understand why I don't want to drive around as a billboard... "If the dealership is good to you. You should let them put it on..." My answer to that Ya right...! I dont' think so... Unless they want to pay me to drive the truck then I would let them put one on... Atleast a small one
