Two Great Kills

Heres a coupla fun "extra legal" activities me and one of my buddies took part in.

#1 My friend has a 68 Nova SS with a 350 bored out, Headers, Full Cam, 4.56 gears in a Positrac rear end,and a powerglide 3 speed with slap shift. It runs low 14s in the 1/4. Anyway he drove this car when we were seniors in high school. So one day we're leaving school when this douche bag in a pastel purple prelude pulls up next to us at a light. we don't pay him much attention, but then he starts revin up his car and his muffler is letting out these gigantic farts and he has his neon and system going like he's a badass or something. So I look at my friend and tell him to smoke the guy. The light hits green and we take off and get the Novas front end about 5" off the ground. I hear the fart bomb trying to catch us but we beat him by at least 3 car lengths.

#2 Same friend decided to garage the nova and get a truck for a daily driver. Well being the speed freak he is he gets a 93 454 SS. One night we're out trying to pick up ladies in the thing and a guy in a Dodge R/T asks if we want to run, so we tell him hell yeah since we were kinda bored. We get to a light and line up. The moron in the dodge starts doing a burn out at the redlight. when the light hits green my friend stomped the pedal and we left the dude spinning his tires at the red light. He didn't catch up to us untill the next red light. He said we cheated and he wanted to go again so we ran again and beat him by about a 2 truck lengths. Some people just have to learn the hard way I guess

:fume: I kinda figure all powerglides to be 2 speeds. So either you just got mixed up and really hes running a TH350 or TH400 or a 2 speed powerglide. Also why would a person bother with 4.56 rear end gears to only run 14's?

I included reverse on the powerglide, it only has to forward then one reverse so it was a "3" speed. Anyway I was mixed up the 454 would run 14s the Nova ranj low 13s high 12s depending on fuel and tires.

yeah the prelude was stock, and he never did the wheelie thing when actually drag racing on a strip, he would just rev it up then trow it in gear and it would get a wheelie but it did beat that prelude by 2 or 3 car lengths, but sadly about a month after that he blew up the motor, it had a slow oil leak and he forgot to add oil to it for like 2 weeks and one night he was racing this guy and the thing just locked up, so He got a new crate 350, threw a rod in it, got another one, ed the block some how, then he garaged the car and got the 454 truck, but he has since sold it because of cop harrasment where he lives and has a Formula Firebird with a 6 speed

wonder if it was a full on wheelie launch, or just what you can do with a four wheeler by reving it up and throwing it into gear. And what a moron if you want cops to leave you alone get something not so noticable!

On the motor my nova runs 11.70 and wont pull the front off the ground. On the bottle it runs low 10,s at 130 with a 1.3 60 ft and only pulls the front end off about 5-8''.

    • New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?
    • So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
    • Hey everyone, I recently had an issue with my 07 2500HD GMT900. My DRL’s stay on at all times. Right front turn and right mirror turn signal indicator stay on solid at all times. By “at all times” I mean the only way to make them go off is disconnecting the battery. I tore the headlight assemblies out, tried disconnecting the harnesses to eliminate bad wiring at the harness, I unplugged the headlight switch, no change and the mirror turn signal still stayed on. My first thoughts were : Bad bulb and/or socket somewhere, under hood fuse panel bad, bcm bad, tail light or trailer wiring problem, or some random short to power in the harness.  Possibly a bad ground but unlikely. I had a big clue in the fuse panel, it had a burnt smell. I started pulling every fuse that had to do with DRL or right turn/park lamp. Nothing made the right directional turn off but pulling the DRL2 fuse made the DRL’s go out.  After studying wiring diagrams, I found that both problems had that fuse panel in common, the bcm also controls both problems but knowing the fuse panel had a burnt smell I removed and disassembled the fuse panel and found a little corrosion on the printed circuit board.  I ordered a new fuse panel from Amazon for like $260. When it arrived I installed it, and put everything back together, the problem was fixed. I figured the fuse panel needed to be replaced anyway so that was a logical place to start. Hopefully this story helps someone in the future. Regretfully I didn’t scan for codes before I did everything.
    • That stinks. I’m sitting on the side of the road right now with the same issue. Never had an issue before taking it in for the ground strap recall. Now I’m outside of warranty and they’ll probably want $200 just to diagnose what they already “fixed”.
