USB Ports Question

I've noticed on my 2024 Silverado HD w/ the LT trim, that the 2 USB ports differ somewhat in function. 

 

When I plugged the power cord for my GPS into the USB port on the dash nothing registers on the GPS screen. However I can insert a mini thumb drive in the same port to play music. Is this USB port strictly for media input?

 

I do get power from the USB port @ the rear of the 'console'.

 

On my truck, it would appear that the DC/AC switch as GM calls it, is not present. I started my truck & using a typical wall adapter was able to power the GPS thru the 110V outlet. I'm guessing that @ some point GM reworked the 'electrics' so that the 110V outlets are powered as soon as the truck is running.

I picked up a 12V female to USB male adapter @ Auto Zone last fall. I had to machine a 'retainer' as the male plug from the GPS kept popping out of the adapter due to the spring pressure. No problems now.
