This Squeal is making me nuts!!

Ok I posted on this a while ago, no luck and it's getting worse!

Howver the fact that it is getting worse is helping.

I get a squeal while rolling above 5 to 10 mph, only when the steering wheel is turned off center to the right, And I mean just off center. till a good 3/4 turn. beyond that it won't do it.

Now again it's intermittant but way more constant I can make it squeal with a gentle right.

Any Turn to the left and nothing.

Drive down a 2 lane road that is crowned and I'm in the left lane it squeals. down the road and its bumpy it will squeal wth ever bump (trying to off center the wheel).

The sound is odd, It's not a belt squeal (I removed the belt and drove the truck, no change).

It's not a metal on metal sound either, like a dustshilld hitting or the squeal bar on the brakes.)

It's a rubber belt metalic sound, I know it sounds stupid.

It sound like a rubber duck being murdered and it's loud.

I had a guy comment on it yesterday, "Andy" he said, "I've heard Chey Rats and Mouse motors, But when did the come out with the Rubber Duck".

It's the same clutch in out, braking or not, forward or reverse. as long as the wheel is turned just off to the right.

Any ideas would help.

So out of frustration I pulled the Right F Wheel off again :P .

Everything looked fine Pulled the Calipers, and disc. and readjusted dust shield.(couldn't pull the hub didn't have a big enough socket. Anyone know how big a socket I need for the bearing nut?

grabbed the studs and there was a little movement. bearly anything.

Put it all back together an went for drive, Noise gone I drove for 15min and not a single squeak out it. Thought I had it made.

Yeah right. later that night I took my son to the video store and on the way home the dang thing starts squealing again. Drive to work and it's worse than ever :sigh:

I'm going to try to change the Front Bearing any one done this on a 94 K1500

besides that monster bearing nut. (again if you know what size it is, let me know so I don't buy a whole dang set).

Any other special tools I need, I was told this was a sealed bearing no grease needed Any tips appreciated.

 Thanks Guys, Ran out at lunch

It was $27 bucks for a 36mm and 1/2 x 3/4 adapter or $40 for the SET with 22mm to 50 mm and 3/4" braker bar. 3 an 6 inch extensions.

Go Big or Go Home :)

And the 36mm was bang on for the 94 also

One more thing-

The guy I bought my hub from warned me to pay attention to the torque on the 36mm nut.

It is to be tightened to 165 foot pounds.

Thanks. now I need to find a 3/4" torque wrench.

Glad you said something cause I would have done the snug and back off a half, bit.

Drove a coworker to drop off his rental car, and it squealed all the way there. Drop off his car and I want'd him to hear it? (He's into 4wd mods). And you think it would squeal. nope. Ran and got the socket set and she squaealed all the way there. put he socket set in the truck not a sound out her. drove all over almost 20 miles and not a peep.

I'm ready for a short drive off a tall cliff

Figures - Murphy’s Law.

Hey, how about this.

Either car pool with the coworker, or keep the socket set permanently in the truck. Problem fixed!

 Yup: I guess I'd tow the line if I was looking at a 50mm socket with 22" of ratchet behind it to :):lurk:

Thanks again

:) Parked outside for a lousy hour and it's back!!

OK in to this a little further. this is a completely sealed assembly "NOT SERVICABLE, MUST BE REPLACED IN IT'S ENTIRETY". :lurk:

Looked around the web $250 shipped and I'll get hammered another $$35.00 in Customs.

And I still don't know if this is the problem. Alot of cash for a possible nothing.

Any one know where I can get a better deal? Any one now a "GUY".

What is the actual life of these, do I risk a wrecker part?

My wife is goin' to kill me and I'll be restricted to blacktop again for the next 2 months. :flag:

I have a friend that lost a wheel bearing on his k2500 @ 40K miles. It was expensive to replace but it cured the problem. His was giving a growl/humm noise when going down the road.

Are you sure your problem isn't CV related? A worn out or dry CV joint can make some strange intermittent noises...

I had thought about that but the CV's were brand new 8 months ago. and the in out play left and right is the same. But I have thought it.

There is no vibration, no clicking, no pulling or binding, just a dang squealing sound that is only on right off center.

Lift the front end up, and try to rock the tire back and forth. Push and pull on the top and bottom of the tire to rock it back and forth. This is how I noticed my hub was shot. I had alot of play in it. As far as the price, $250 seems steep. If you can get me a part number, I can do some asking around.

benex

There is some play but very little. I'm going to make a few more calls today to some local shops and a couple stealers.

Been pricing out the Hub assembly.

And I still don't have a part #

Now these are Canadian Prices. (So x.75 or usd).

Bumper to Bumper was best new at 228.

Stealership was 427

Used Price is $125.00 from a wecker that I have delt with several times with good results so far.

Waiting for an email confirmation from a shop with used hubs for $75.00 shipped. about 2 hrs north of me.

Would I be OK with a used hub or do I spend the extra $100 on a new one?
