x-cab backseat rattle

the backseat in my x-cab has developed a rattle. it does it when the seat is in the up position - in the up position the seat still has some movement, from the bottom of the seat being almost flat to the top(no rattle), to bottom being several inches from the top (rattle). if i push the seat up tight again, the rattle stops for a while, till the lower part of the seat creeps back down again, then the rattle starts up again.

hopefully this makes sense. has anyone had this/fixed this on their truck?

i cant keep it down cause my dog sits on the floor back there, and more often then not she is with me. and she is WAY too big to sit up on the seat - it is very awkward when she is up there...

No solution for your problem here, just a comment. I had a knocking type rattle from the passenger side of my extended cab. I'm not a dummy  so I figured I could adjust things and stop it. Durned if I could duplicate the problem by pressing and pulling on the doors on that side.

So, I took it to the dealer. Poor guy in the body shop pulled and pushed, measured and adjusted, torqued and twisted his wrenches. So, off he goes in my truck, comes back fuming and fussing. Pulls and twists, torques and adjusts. Off he goes, comes back in a not so good mood.

He and his partner worked and worked. They even put some sort of suction thing on the door and hooked that up to a machine that all it does is make things rattle. My truck cab was just as tight as could be. The door were tight.

So, here comes the boss. He looks inside, pounds a bit on the dash, raises the window glass and pulls up and pushes down. Nothing. TIGHT.

And then he found it. Found the problem. It was the passenger seat. Danged spring popped off from underneath for the latching mechanism. All the spring does is put tension on the spring so it doesn't rattle. D'UH! The seat would rock by about 1/16th of an inch, just enough to make a rattle.

Well, anyway, I wish I could solve the back seat rattle problem on your truck. You might put some thick grease on the latch mechanism, in an area that can get on clothes. Or look for some dumb tension spring.

I think there was a bulletin from GM on this backseat rattle. If i remember right, there are 2 rubber bumpers that go on the backrest of the back seat where it "clips into" the latch posts on the left and right side top of the seat. My truck has only one of these rubber bumpers and the dealer is trying to find a part number for it. Somehow i lost one. Maybe somebody else may remember the bulletin number.

Ditto that. There are two hooks on the back of the seat. If you look at my site http://www.chevy4x4trucks.com and look at the console/carpet install you can see how to unlatch the backseat and the hooks in question. You may just need to loosen up the seat a bit and put some foam tape on the hooks to fix the rattle. I had a bit of a rattle after I took the seat out and later found one of the rubber bumpers on the garage floor. I ended up tossing it and put some sticky foam tape on and took care of the problem.
