Service 4WD light?

My mom was telling me yesterday that the Service 4WD light came on her truck a couple weeks ago when her and her "significant other" were in Idaho, and that the transfer case was making weird noises and took a second to engage. It's an 03 w/ around 40k miles already, but at least they don't have any CSK.

But any ainput would be greatly appreciated! I dnon't want a lemon if I get this truck!

There is a "service 4wd" light so she is telling you the truth that she saw it.

In alot of cases it's just a switch or sensor that is going bad. Hopefully that's all it is in her case too...

Tell you'r mom to take it back to the dealer and get the switch changed out.I had the same prblem on my 2000.

It's not a light but rather a message that displays in the DIC ... my 01 intermittently shows it, too. My scan tool verified it was the dash switch module, so I ordered one from gmpartsdirect.com for around $40, but still haven't put it in yet (but I certainly would if I heard some strange noises from the drivetrain, etc)

1999-2002 are known for the switch causing a service 4wd light

2003 has no switch problems but the is a new encoder motor sensor and

computer reflash.

What they said....

The switch went out on my 99 about a month ago..... "Stealer" got me for 54 bucks for the part and about 38 for labor....nice.... to pull off the dash bezel, unscrew the part, unplug it and reverse order for the new one....

My 03, DIC message came on when it was F***ing(-25) freezing out.The dealer said they have had a lot of call about it with the cold weather and to wait to see if it happen again. It only came on the one day. No problem since

So since she said the 4wd seems to be fine now, just take it in to the dealer and ask about the light? I hope that's all it is

i took mine in, they said they did some kind of program (computer) fix and said it shouldnt happen again. i do recall, the time it happened it was freezing out as well...

My O2 does it every so often just after I start it up. Goes away in 2 seconds though. I am having no problems with my 4 wheel drive. Do you think its the switch in mine too?
