2003 Chevy Silverado odometer lit up when turned off

My 2003 Chevy silverado has the odometer lit up, no numbers just squares.  Dead battery. Key off.  What do you think is the problem?

Probably glitching out due to low voltage from the dead battery, probably caused by a failing ignition switch from the sound of things.

 

You'll have to get a good battery in there first to do any kind of useful troubleshooting.
