Fab Tech Suspentions

I am considering a suspention lift for my 99 s10, 2 weel drive, ex cab, 2.2 liter.

Has any one put one on a truck like mine?

Personally I know a few people who have used Fabtech lifts on 2wd GM's without any problems but None of them are on s-series trucks so there may be a legitimate problem with the lift although I think his problem was more with the people who installed it.

I know that fab tech makes a good 2wd suspension.  They are used for a lot of people who are into baja type racing and want that longer wheel travel.

I've got the 2.5" Fabtech lift on my 2wd '96 x-cab S10.  I like it now BUT....

When first installed the 1.5" lift for the rear was way too low.  Had to add 2" spring shackles to make the truck sit level.  If your truck sits level before the lift their stock package (2.5" front, 1.5" rear) WON'T work, you'll need the shackles.

My front tires rub both the bottom rear edge of the fender and the bottom of the air dam, these I can live with for now but will not work if you really want to get off road.  I'm running 30x9.50x15's just like Fabtech claims will work.  The tires are Goodyear GSA's & actually measure 28.5", an actual 30" tire would rub horribly.  I'm probably gonna put a 1" or 2" body lift to stop the fender rubbing.  The air dam can be clearanced with a file, dremel, etc.

The shop that installed my kit did a REAL hack job on the lower A arms.  The Fabtech kit requires that they be clearanced slightly on the '96, the shop took out a bunch of metal.

Choose your shop carefully & check your truck's stance before you buy the kit.  I was real disappointed when the shop called to say the truck was ready.  Looked like I was hauling 1000 lbs. of concrete!

Oh yeah almost forgot...  ever since the install the truck's ABS & BRAKE lights flash intermittently & the truck will shudder, sometimes die.  Bought the expensive Hypertech computer & reprogrammed the computer to calibrate the speedo for the larger tires.  Still have the problem.  Not 100% sure the install caused the problem but I haven't been able to resolve the problem yet.  No kinked wires or tubing, still searching for an answer...

im am also looking at getting a fabtech suspension lift and a 2" body lift on my 98 gmc sonoma 2wd 2.2L, and would like to know if you still used your original wheels, casue according to fabtech, you cant use factory wheels, and i cant afford new wheels. anyway, i am just going to get the basic 1 1/2" lift ( with just the springs and maybe balljoint spacer, and shock extesions and leaf shackle ext's.) i dont see any reason why i cant use my original wheels(there factory aluminum)? does the kit stiffen the ride any? im doing this myself, so there will be no mistakes!
