Unless you have a small car, like a mini-sprint, I think you'd be asking too much out of that truck.

I agree with Friz. Your owners manule should give you the max weight based on your power train configuration. I personally feel the manufactures have gotten into a tow numbers war. I think it is just a matter of time befor the DOT steps in and sets safety guidelines that all manufactures must meet for each tow weight rating. My truck is rated for over 7 thousand pounds and I would never tow over 5 thousand with it.

GMC rates the Envoy with 4.10's at Max trailering weight of 6200lbs

I was thinking of the same duty at turbofrank.   Do you guys see a 3400lb car as a problem for the rating?

I'm towing my RX7 track car with mine. Here are some pictures of the setup.

I use a weight distributing hitch with DrawTite Activator brake controller for the trailer brakes.

The trailer weighs 1700 lbs and the car is 2700.

I usually carry about 250 lbs of crap with me.

On the road, I use third going up hills, but it does on with 4th on the flats no problem.

I have a 2002 SLT Envoy w/4.10 rear end. Towed approx. 2500lbs from WA to MD and back, no problems! Gas milage sucks (12MPG) but no complaint other wise. Getting ready to tow a 5000lb boat on the same route. So far, the Envoy tows the boat fine, but as said before...... I use 3rd gear most of the time. Load leveling system is great also.
