Is my tranny about to go??

Well for 2 days now in a row my tranny has been acting up. At startup and driving about 25 miles on the highway, no problems. But when I get into stop and go traffic after the 25 mile non-stop ride, it's like riding a bull when it shifts from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. Only if I slowly accelerate from a stop. If I nail it off the line, it shifts smooth as silk. Is this a sign of something about to go in my tranny? Thanks, Chris

Could be a sensor problem or an actual failing tranny but it sounds like what happens when the computer is detecting excessive slip between the tranny input and output it cranks up the hydraulic pressure to max to keep the tranny from burning itself up thus hard shifts.

Same thing happened to my sons 98 S-10. Tranny had to be rebuilt. Can't remember what exactly it was but I guess it's quite common on 4l60 at about 90,00 miles or so.

Mighty tall rubber on that truck(picture)

I'm w/WINGNUT...When was it serviced last?

If I was to guess, sounds like the fluid is too hot...just a guess

Had EVERYTHING switched out early last fall. It gets serviced by the book. Today it shifted smooth as silk. Nothing like it did the last 2 days. :sigh: Oh well, if it goes, it goes. Thanks, Chris

After you changed the tires did you have the PCM calibrations changed for the taller tires? It changes input signal for PCM,BCM,ABS. :sigh:

Nope, I won't be able to get a Wester's PCM until later this spring. I've been driving around in 3rd while in town, just to keep it from "searching" for the right gear. It does search around 45mph. On the highway, 1700rpm at 60mph in OD, no problems with in wanting to always downshift. I've got a Superlift TruSpeed, it does make a difference, but it's not working as good with the 35's that it did with the 33's. Chris
