Corsa vs Borla! which would you choose?

I keep going back and forth on this one.

 

I know a cat back exhaust is going to be one of my first four performance mods, I'm just stuck at which one.

I'm pretty sure both are quality units, now I'm just curious about HP/TQ #'s and sound. I've heard the 6.0L sound clip on Corsa's website and it sounds great!!, however on my application it would go from a two into one and back out to two. I'm kinda iffy bout that.

 

of the two which would you choose and why?

Corsa Corsa Corsa. Sound alone would sway my decision. My Borla sounds OK. But aint NEAR loud enough. My Borla muffler will be coming off soon for a Magnaflow! Or Im gonna turn off the rear O2's and rip my cats off. Then it should sound good!

I am still convinced that anyone looking for cat backs should peruse the entire market, not just those high sticker, advertising intensive folks. I was a Gibson man for some time, three trucks, and have switched to a not very well known name brand on my 02 Sierra and am completely satisfied. It was something like $330 out the door, with pipes. www.goerlichs.com and it was the Xclerator muffler, awesome sound, like a fat glass pack straigh thru muffler, great low end and WOT is killer while cruise is limited resonance, everything I was looking for.

 

Talk to local shops, get their advice, spending money on Corsas or Borlas is not always the best decision, however they do look nice. I have twins, one behind each tire, sligh angle, love the look, too.

Ideeho, what did your muffler shop say about mandrel bent tubing versus regular type bends?

 

two reasons I haven't gone to a muffler shop, 1. I want mandrel bent tubing(most don't due that). 2. I seem to have trouble finding reputable local companies.

I wanted the Corsa but they dont make a kit for my truck yet so I went with the Borla. I do like the tips on the borla and where they exit.

What most shops will tell you is that Mandrel bending is a marketing term, and that it won't do you much good unless you are pushing 600 bhp, it's "marketechture" And is a way they try to sell their products. I have standard tubes on my cat back, performance and mpg are optimum. Don't believe the hype, mandrel bending is not all it's cracked up to be at stock or slightly modified performance levels. They chuckle when you ask them about it. Good luck to you. If you'd like to hear the truck live, you are free to give me a call and I will play the Porsche commercial role for you, let you hear the exhaust as I rev and idle or fire it up. It's perfect to me, and I have had a few sets of name brand hyped up variety.

I would pay ONLY for mandrel bent tubing. I dont buy into that "pressure bent tubing doesnt hamper performance." If it does no good, I guess the majority of the guys on LS1Tech.com are getting ripped off for their mandrel bent setups. They run it for a reason. Just my .2 cents.

 

"Mandrel bending has become the standard in aftermarket systems, since it most closely matches how factory exhausts systems are produced. This allows the original diameter of the exhaust tubing to retain its shape throughout the entire system, even in the bends.

 

A pressure bent tube can actually decrease in size in the bend, from 2.25" to 1.97". Of course, the tubing of a "performance exhaust" can only be as large as the smallest diameter, and thus, in this case, can be much smaller than advertised."

You go look at mandrel bent tubing and pressure bent tubing. Then tell me which you would rather run.

Mandrel bending is a marketing fluff tactic. All fluff based on much much higher performance numbers than most anyone's truck here will ever hope to push. Just my humble opinion, pay double if you like, I am completely happy with my setup.

I've only heard one clip of each, and sound bytes don't do real world exhausts justice. I'd love to hear Borlas in person, since they sound badazz on the car, but the high price might push me towards Magnaflows

The Borla setup I have is too dam quiet for me! Im gonna yank the cats off. Make it loud and raspy! I want Corsas cat-back. I got my Borla cheap so I cant complain.

Love my Corsa...sounds a little "motorboat" from INSIDE but not from OUTSIDE...

i have borla XR1 mufflers on my truck and it's on the verge of too loud. im running true duals, 3" pipe from manifold back, no cats, out 2 16" xr1 sportsman mufflers. at certain rpm it sounds downright mean, but at other rpm it sounds like a open header bracket racer. my uncle owns a muffler shop, so im going to see what it sounds like with dual hi-flow cats on it. if i dont like it i'm going to start over and go with flowmaster i guess

The absence of the cats pushed the sound over the edge with the XR-1's. I have a single XR-1 12" with cats and it is even a little loud. But again it sounds good. GIve some Magnaflow cats a shot. I hear they are pretty good stuff!
