long time lurker, new member.

Just a tip to let you know, I have just completed my home-made air intake tube for my 2001 25000 HD 8100 vortec. all I can say there is a difference in performance for the better.

items

first thing is One who is mechanically inclined(I am machinist by trade)

1, 4" sewer pipe scheulde40 90 degree elbow with one end haven the coupler

2, 4" 22.5 degree angle pipe with one end haven the coupler

3 rubber couplers and 6 worm clamps.

Will have to cut pieces of pipe down lenght wise like cutting on the coupler end but leaveing small amount of coupler to act as a hose barb. And some on the straight end just to shorten the whole assembly. take off the flex tubing that is attach after the MAF will need to stretch over end of assembly(fought with mine for hour and half). The only real problem is on Tb side. Need to find a filler or different coupler to join assembly to tb. I use the oem rubber gasket to fill the void on my sewer pipe coupler and tighen down with worm clamp, tight!! Another area of concern is the fan guard, will need a little notch in for 90 elbow to fit on tb right . I finish off with foil tape to give shiney wrinkled finish, and reject heat.

tip of day, I also drill a bunch of 3 inch holes on the front of air box to catch the air coming around the headlight.

May have pictures next week. (no digital camera)

Don't if this works on 2003 and on due to different hood

Yep thats it, 4 INCH I.D. from tb to MAF for 60$ and change

I hope gives people some ideas, instead of $250 plastic tube with filter. :loser:

Just a update on how the home-made unit is working. Went to some races in WI about is 120 mile trip. Before this same trip would net 12.5 to 13.0mpg and now easily get 16.0 mpg  and alot more responsive. Not trying to brag, I have looked at the k&n kits , volant, and few others. Most of the them a sharp 90 deg. bend at TB opening. where as the 90 sewer pipe longer and not abrupt turn for smooooooth air flow. That my .02 cents. Pictures by 4-16-4

Westers ecu is on the way shipped on 4-9-4.:lol:
