Vortec 4200 (I6) Performance Upgrades

Just picked up a 02 Envoy SLT w/ 4.10's , etc.

It only has 650 miles on it and I'm already looking at performance upgrades.

I took a look at the induction system a bit,  it doesn't look like GM used a MAF setup on these, so we can probably get rid of the huge Vortec 4200 baffle box and hook up a nice tube direct to the throttle body and make a nice cold air induction system.     I see that one of the guys here with a Trailblazer LTZ put a conical K&N filter in place of the stock air box already.

It also looks like the I6 doesn't have a thermostat, just a electronic control solenoid?????    Anyone have a service manual yet to confirm this.

Finally, has anyone put a scantool on their truck yet to see fueling and timing.  A tool like Autotap, Ease, etc.    I'll do this tonight and report back.    I'ld like to see dyno results stock and after mods.

So, what do you guys think, should the mods begin???? :)

I have to liven this thing up a bit for the winter.   I'm having power withdrawls by having the 98 ATI Supercharged LS1 T/A in storage.   ;)

BTW, According to the dash computer, avg gas mileage is 14.7...  hope it gets slightly better

Welcome and congrats.  I'm a newer poster here too but it sounds like you may have seen my K&N set up.

Keep me posted on anything you find if you would.  Email is cool.

I'm in the process of working out some HVAC issues on my truck which hopefully GM will resolve or as the District Manager indicated, they will be buying back my truck and I'm onto something else. However, I really love my LTZ and hope come January 5 it's fixed.

Again, keep in touch and good luck.

Thanks guys!

I believe this I6 has some good potential.  I just have to stay away from modding it.    I'ld like to own at least one car/truck that I don't touch (so would the wife ;) ).

However, if anyone as any technical info on the I6 (Vortec 4200), I'ld appreciate it. :)   (Email or post is fine)

Merry Christmas guys!

gilbo - Jim Pace GM Parts Warehouse (www.PACEPARTS.com) has them.  Genuine GM for the 02 Enoy and Trailblazers!  I would call Jason x173 (1-888-748-4655) and talk to him about it, the price sound good too.  They have a front end cover package, molded splash guards, bug deflectors (smoke) and side window vent visors.  Hope that helps
