Discount Tires

Looking to lift my truck by 6" so I'm looking into getting new wheels and tires. Has anybody heard of MB Motoring? It appears to be a brand that Discount Tire carries as their exclusive line. Looking for comments on how well they hold up. I'm looking at getting the "Shock" style, $162 each.

Place where I'm considering getting the lift done said I can probably get 36" or 37" under the truck no problem with a 3" body lift and a 6" suspension lift. I've been looking for 36" but have found none. Looks like the options would be 35" or 37". The 35"'s are pretty common and there seems to be a big price difference in going to 37". Also it seems that the 37" are 17" wheels where as the 35" are either 16" or 17". So my other question is do you think the 37" will fit under the truck or would you go with the 35". Then would you go with the 17" or 16" rims if you pick 35" tires? Current gearing is 3.73 so either way I should get it re-geared.

By the way the tire I'm considering is the BFG TA/KO. Currently I have those on my truck and like them very good. Second choice might be BFG TA/KO 315/75/r16 on Mickey Thompson Classic II wheels.

Fabtech recommends the 315/75/r16. I don't know what RCD recommends. I plan on calling both this morning and finding out if I can even use the 37" with their lifts.

Any suggestions?

I called Fabtech to ask about the tire sizes. They recommend the 315/75/r16 (35" equalivent) because they know it works and there is very minimal trimming required. He told me to check with the local dealers for their recommendation as to what would be the largest size I could use. Does not recommend anything wider than the 315/75/16r on a 16"x10" with 4 5/8" back spacing wheel. So it would be possible to go taller if I have the room but not wider. Told me you want to pretty much keep the tire and wheel centered to avoid adding extra stress to the bearings. Makes sense to me. So I may end up just going with a 35 instead of a 37. I'll just have extra wheel well clearance.

please do yourself a favor and stay away from the mb motoring wheels.

I bought a set last september and they were junk by december. No amount of polishing could have help them.

they were polished at first and I waxed them right off. Cleaned, polished and waxed them once a week when I washed my truck. They started to develop some spotting that I could not get off and this is what happened.

p.s. the first set I ordered had pin holes on the inner part of the wheel

GF7PE,

What wheels do you have now? Looking for a good deal on wheels and tires.

I found the tires to be

$234 each for the 35" x 12.5 -17

$187 each for the 35" x 12.5 -16.5

I can get a BFG 315/75/R16 on Mickey Thompson Classic II for $1291 for all four.

I might go this route because this so far is the cheapest I found.

Any body heard about the Mickey Thompson Classic II and how they hold up?

GF7PE,

Thanks for the heads up. Which model of MB Motoring wheels gave you problems? I was considering one of MB Motoring's "mirror-machined" finish wheels, assuming a machined finish would likely hold up better through winter than say a polished aluminum. Were your MB Motoring wheels polished or "mirror-machined"?

Thanks,

I forget the model number but the first set were mirror machined and got a foggy look to them before the rims started to leak. The second set were polished (different model)

p.s not sure who makes them but they came with ultra center caps

Yes, Ultra makes many (possibly all) MB Motoring wheels.

Thanks for the info -- I was wondering how their "mirror-machined" surface holds up. I would like to find a low-maintenance wheel without going to chrome. I actually prefer the old-school look of machined or polished aluminum as opposed to chrome, but would also like to run the wheels through winter without ruining the surface. Guess I'll keep looking.
