Hypertech or Superchips

Westers PCM is out of the question due to the cost. I can get either of the above for about $150. Is one better than the other as far as performance? Gas Mileage? Second question can you get by with running 91 octane when the program is for 93? I don't know of a station where you can regularly get 93 here in MN.

You will learn the hard way like a lot of us have, Westers is the way to go. Both of the above only help at WOT and they are hit and miss most of the time. Most of the above end up on Ebay for about half or less than they cost. Just my @ cents.

my superchips was great for adjusting my speedo for larger tires.....besides that it's a cool paper weight.

I have a Superchips 2280 Chip not a microtuner and it works great for me. It provides better performance across the board not just at WOT. Much better throttle response all the time and better shifting. It saved me 1 sec to 60 mph at 8.65 sec and .68 sec in the 1/4 @ 16.18 sec and 89.84mph. These times were measured with a G-Tech Pro Competition and are the result of 5 run averages. While the Westers PCM tune sounds very good I am very happy with my Superchips. Not everyone is happy with their Westers tune. YRMV.

id put that 150 in the bank and put it towards a custom tune.. westers or not..

Although this board has become pretty onesided towards westers, I do value the opinions given and think I will put the cash towards some rims instead! That will give me some additional HP

But it wont put a smile on your face like a tune does when you blow by a kid in his honda accord that thinks it is so fast hehe good choice on the rims though.. those always help be sure to get pics posted when you get them!.. also stickers add lots of HP

I don't think the board is necessarily onesded towards westers, I think it is towards cutom tuning. I think that most peole are very happy with their tunes, whether they're from Westers or Nelsons or Edit, and the one thing that is for sure is that a good custom tune, will beat the crap out of a handheld anyday, it may take some patience to get it right, but once it is you'll be happy with it no matter what company you go with.

As far as your choice....it's a good one, I wish I had spent more than $85 a peice on my wheels....they look like crap now.

I got a brand new Granetelli Motor Sports DiabloSport Predator off eBay for a lot less than street price. It's great with with all the usual programming capabilities plus ability to custom program trans shift time and pressure, different trans programs for regular and tow/haul modes, ability to change spark timing, plus GMS emailed a custom program for free.

I have had my Hypertech (2nd one) for over a year now and it does everything I could possibly imagine...and you can customize almost each every setting for how you want it. IMHO.
