Grinding brakes?

Whenever I shift out of park and begin to move I can hear a horrible grinding coming from the rear brakes. It doesn't occur when driving at any decent speed, but from a standstill or at speeds less than 2 mph it gets bad, especially the lighter I press the pedal. It's not a high pitched squeal associated with worn or really new pads, just a grinding sound that is absurd. The vette doesn't grind, and the old truck never had this problem. Suggestions before I go to the dealer

How many miles??? Have you done any offroading recently??? Its possible that you may have caught a pebble in between the pad and the rotor surface. I'd take it to the dealer.

Never heard any grinding sounds from my rear brakes, but within 9 months of owning the truck it was at the dealers because the pads had cut grooves into the rotors. They were able to resurface the rotors and the problem has not re-occurred since.

For your truck, especially cuz it's brand-spanking new, take it to the dealer. Based on how that goes and what happens, make sure you express how you feel to GMC's customer care when they called. I can almost guarantee they'll never call me again after the last time they spoke with me.

Condition

Some customers may comment on a scraping noise from the rear of the vehicle while driving. The noise may be intermittent.

 

Cause

Condition may due to the parking brake shoe contacting the drum in hat rotor without the parking brake being applied, causing premature wear on the shoe lining.

 

Correction

Replace the parking brake shoe and install a new designed spring clip retainer. Follow the service procedure below to correct this condition.
