doing some work this weekend

just rolled over 60k today....

weather pending this weekend, i'm going to get some routine maintenence done. just wanted to see what brands you guys recommend.

plugs---???

wires--????

fuel filter---????

pcv valve---guess i'll get the new version from a dealer

cab air filter----dealer as well...can you even buy them at a parts store?

the k&n needs a good cleaning as well as my maf, the screen is dirty so i can only asume the the elements need a cleaning too. i already changed fluids in the tranny, both diffs and transfer case at 50k. anything else you guys think i should do while i'm at it? brakes are next....but that will have to wait for another weekend. my drivers window motor seems like it's starting to die, so i can see that in the future as well.

while i'm on my soapbox i'll express my only other complaints/problems on this truck so far. i have a slight hestiation or jerk in the tranny between 2-3 shift. it only happens when driving in 3(not od). dealer said there are separate clutches being used when driving in od and that is making the jerk---and that's normal. right. this tranny has always had a rough shift, expecially when downshifting. the dealer replaced my ujoints under warrenty back when i had the driveline clunk(which didn't help--finally went away with the blue transfer case fluid) and i think those are what makes the clanging during downshifting. i think i could do the steering shaft lube again because i feel a little vibration/wine when turning, not the cluncking i had before but more like it's low on fluid, but it's not. last, my ac compressor sometimes does not turn on when it's really hot outside. i have to open the hood and wiggle the wires going into the compressor until it turns on. it seems to do it more when i'm at a stop. so i have no idea on that one....sorry for the long post but i just felt like throwing this all out and see if i got any good ideas from you guys. thanks in advance!

I, too, am about to roll 60K on my 2002, and here is the list of things I have planned to change out and the frequency of which I have done them in the past:

Transmission Flush (Every 30K)

Front and Rear Diff. (Every 30K)

Transfer Case Fluid (Every 30K)

Fuel Filter (Every 30K)

Wipers (Every 30K)

Air Filter (every 15K)

Tire Rotate/Balance (Every 5K)

Change Oil (Every 3K)

Clean Throttle Body (Never Cleaned)

PCV valve (never changed)

Cabin Air Filter (never changed)

I will do the plugs, wires, belt, and hoses at 100K. How do you clean the MAF? You can buy the cabin air filter at pep boys (also is sold on their website)

I also plan on washing the truck with Dawn dish soap to strip all the wax, using a clay bar on it, and then re-waxing with Meguiar's Gold Class. I am also going to get the engine detailed (something I have never done!) - it is pretty dirty.

I am still on the original brake pads. I am having no problems with squeaking, etc. and they still are real solid. I do get a slight vibration when slowing down from high speeds, but I will get the rotors turned when I change out the pads. I wouldn't see a problem with going to Autozone and using their pads.

Is there anything else I should add to my list from above? I am already in the process of gathering the necessary parts to do all of this.

There is no need to flush tranny unless oil is burnt of smells like it. If you drive hard/tow you should change tranny filter and top off every year regardless of miles.

On the diffs, with the rear if you have over sized tires I would change the rear every 15,000 or less. The front I would change every other time at most. On the transfer case, a couple of times in its life is fine unless it get filled with water and such. I would give it it first change earily in its life though. Rear axle lube should be changed too on a new truck after a few thousand miles too to remove "break in" bits in oil from gear set.

This is probably going to be a "dumb" question, but what is the difference between rear axle lube and the fluid in the rear differential?

Nothing...just different names

You might use 75w90 gear lube too as it might give you a fraction more MPG and every little bit helps. I would also install a aftermarket tranny cooler if you want long life as heat is the trannies biggest enemy.
