Hitch compatability

Would a hitch from an 01 3500 silverado fit on my 04 2500hd shortbed?

It came off of a 3500 shortbed so I'm thinking it will fit?

I just want to be sure before I drop $100 on it.

I know I can get a hidden hitch/aftermarket for about the same price but I'd prefer a factory hitch.......?

I am not sure because axle is further back in shortbed box on club and crew cab trucks. You want to measure and check.

when I look at aftermarket hitches, the applications for my 2500hd shortbed also apply to a 3500 shortbed.

I'm assuming the hitch is the same for the 2500hd shortbed gmc/silverado and 3500 shortbed for the factory application?

My guess would be no it won't fit...your talking two different body styles here....and two totally different frames. Just FYI even in the 01-04 model years a factory hitch from a long bed truck will not bolt up to a short bed....go figure.

How do you figure? Frame is the same on short bed ones. I can see long bed not fitting short bed one because as stated earlier, short beds axle is located further back in box than the long beds one.

It came OFF of a 3500 SHORTBED

I am thinking of purchasing it for my 2500HD SHORTBED.

I may be wrong, but isnt the 2500hd/3500 frames the same?

All the aftermarket hitches are the same for 2500hd/3500 shortbeds. So, I would *Think* that the factory hitch would fit the 2500hd/3500 shortbeds, and be compatable on eeither truck.

I understand the shortbed to shortbed deal...In 2001 there was no such animal as a 3500 shortbed..unless it is a late build 2000 which is the old body style(88-00) therefore it will not fit your 2004 2500HD two totally different frames...as I stated above.

There were no 2001 "Classics" OBS's either. Maybe the 2001 was not a 3500 then.

Agreed, its either not a 3500 or is not a 2001....sounds like the guy selling needs to find a clue. :D
