Z-71 minor concerns

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum.. Just traded in my 2000 S-10 with a 4.3 for a 2000 Z-71. I have a few minor problems.. One is a hard start.. How hard is this fuel pressure regulator replacment on the 5.3? I am a nissan tech.. so i can handle it.. just wanted to know. Also.. I have an A/c problem.. it has the center console with back vents.. and it sounds like it is blowing away.. but there is very little air coming out of any of the vents? Possible blower motor? or blower? Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated. One last thing.. i disconnected the battery to do some exhaust welding on my truck.. and it had a hard time idling for a few minutes.. it has been fine ever since. Is this GM's way of doing Idle Airl Volume Self Learn??? My truck only has 40k on it. I will enclose a pic of it as well. I posted this at the end of another post but i thought id get better response with a new topic.

I'm new to the forum too, and I also have a 2000 Z-71 which I've owned for less than a month.

I live in Ohio where they salt the roads, so I got my truck from a dealer in Nashville (via e-bay!) so it is in beautiful condition, but with high miles and a few dings.

I have the same issue with the A/C. It makes a lot of noise, but there isn't much flow on the driver's LH vent, or in the rear seat vents. The other vents seem OK to me though.

It hasn't annoyed me enough to worry about, so I haven't checked the archives.

Doesit have separate controls for the rear vents? Mine only has the vents that run off of the main blower. They seem to move a good deal of air considering their size and distance from the source. One thing to check would be the seals between the various pieces of ducting in the console and the dash. I've had several cars dump the bulk of the cold air into the back of the radio or somewhere else where it does no good at all.

I you have the key in the run position and disconnect the negative you will reset the PCM and it will have to relearn everything. Maybe you did this...

That is exactly what happened! Key was in the on position! Did not think anything of it.. do it at Nissan all the time.. no such issues! Also.. found my A/C in cabin filters to be caked with stuff! As for any other concerns.. im slowly but surely gettin it better.. next issue is re-gearing.. with 315/75/ 16 tires on it (approx 35's) I get about 200 miles out of a tank... just under 10mpg.. but i think i can get more out of it bringing the gear ratio back up so it will act stock! No rear controls for the vents.. but they blow like a bat out of hell now!

The key in the on position and disconnect the neg on the battery is actually a good way to get the truck to relearn everything quicker after you do a major mod. When I put on the Volant air intake, new plugs, and new wires I reset the PCM like this and it figured everything out pretty quickly.

H4ey6 snorider!!! what are the chances of two esco guys.. haha.. Yeah man.. thanks about my buddies truckl.. sad thing is.. that was just a pissed off mistake during a race! got a little carried away and went huge! to all you cali guys... hit up the MDR races! there are some future bg timers in the sportsman 1450 class! including me and a guy named austin "fish" farner! We really need all the MDR support we can get! we need to pull an audience to get more sponsership! We definately put on a good show.. not to mention have a good time while doing it!

If your spedo was not recalibrated for the bigger tires you are probably getting alot better mileage. You need to get the spedo fixed if you really want to know what kind of milage you are getting. If you are suffering from power loss you should try a custom tune first. I just had mine done and it made a world of diffrence. I can actually get on the intrestate now.

I also didn't realise how bad my spedo was off until it was fixed.

Hi! I´m new to the forum also. I just traded my 96 Sierra 5.7 for a 2000 Z71 w/5.3L. I need your help guys, I want to get more output form the stock engine but don´t know where to begin... It´s kind of a difficult task because I´m in Central America with little or no parts available, so I´ll have to order them, I´ll need all the info I can get, websites, stores.... I was thinking about an exhaust system and Chip upgrade or modifier....

Which is the best way to go? mmmm... I´m also on a $1000 budget....

Hey, will my speedo being off change my odometer? I mean i dont see how it could not change the odometer readings... but I am not sure if it is really that far off because I had a car driving nect to me and we were pretty close to the same speed as she had and my GPS had. But I think I will have it checked out! Where did you get your speedo done at? a Dealer?

I had a custom tune and while he was tunning for more power he made the adjustments for the bigger tires. I would definately check in to custom tunning for some more power and to fix the spedo.
