Vortec Wiring Harness

Newbie here.

I've got a '57 Burb on a '00 GMC Sierra chassis with 5.3 Vortec engine, auto trans.

The Sierra was a mild "rollover" that I bought which was in running and driving condition. I removed the cab, fenders and bed off the Sierra and mounted my '57 Burb on.

What I want to do is to remove the big black electric center box which is too big to mount under my hood. I also want to remove all the un-neccessary smog components and sensor that I won't need being that it's registered as a '57.

As for my dash gauges, I want to use the Dakota digital gauges.

Here's where I'm lost and would like some advice.

Using the existing stock harness, what smog components and sensor can I eliminate?

How do I eliminate the main electrical center? And what do I replace it with?

I've spoken to Painless who suggested selling me their Fuel Injected wiring harness for $360 and they would make me a main harness for $800, which I think is a little excessive.

Couldn't I use the existing harness and modify it and wire the rest of the Burb using the conventional wiring method i.e. fuse block?

I sure could use some advice here. Thanks

Welcome to the Forum :D

Just a suggestion, but unless you are modifying the engine,I wouldnt disable any of the sensors or smog equipment....the PCM (Power Control Module) that controls the engine and tranny relies on those parts to run correctly....if you change the exhaust to duals or headers you will need sims (simulators) to replace the O2 sensors...the harness' from Painless may be pricey, but could be worth it in th long run...you could extend the wiring harness to relocate the electrical center yourself but will take time, and may I suggest getting a wiring diagram for the chassis to help you sort it out...I'll admit that I have not done any of the work that you are doing,so I can only guess at the work that will be required on your project, but it sounds like a cool challenge

I don't know how far the "custom" tuners (Westers, Nelsons, or PCMforless.com) can go as far as removing emissions equipment from all the PCM/BCMs.

I would say give one of them a call, and see what they can do for you.

But I'm with ^^him...I don't think that you'll be able to remove all that, and still be able to use the stock harness without a full-grown, adult-sized Excedrin headache bangaroo.

But...I've never done a conversion like that either.
