Should I use Mobil 1 on first oil change?

I have an '04 Yukon 2WD 5.3L and I'm at 2500 miles. I'm going to do my first oil change in it. I read the post about the horror stories, so I'm hoping I'll be prepared for those. My question is, should I go straight to Mobil 1 full synthetic? When speaking with some guys at work they said not to go full until the seals are more broken in but to go with a partial synthetic until about 10-15k miles, is this true?

I went straight to Mobil 1 on my first oil change. No problems whatsoever. The engine is usually broken in within the first 500-1000 miles.

You should be OK to go to Mobil-1 for the first oil change. Corvette LS1 motors use Mobil-1 as the factory fill and the breakin for those motors is only 500 miles berfore full-throttle operation.

Look for the 5-qt jugs of Mobil at Wal-Mart. It's running around $19 at my local store. The single jug is easy to deal with and you can use it to carry away most of the old oil.

I too switched to Mobil-1 at my first oil change (around 700 mi), now 37k later, no problems whatsoever. Don't worry about the seals having to "break in", that's just a bunch of hoo hah.

The horror stories I was referring too were with people changing the oil in the 5.3 for the first time. Talks of the 3-4 ft spray from the drain plug and removing the oil filter and having ~1 qt come leaking out around it. I'm going to change mine tomorrow so I'll see how it goes!

Knock yourself out. I changed to Mobil 1 on the first oil change and have never had an oil related problem. I've been using Mobil 1 for years now. Good luck with the oil change. I just did my Silverado yesterday. At least yours is a 2wd so you won't have to worry about getting oil all over the skid plates. When the oil is still warm, it will shoot a stream out about 2 feet long. Just make sure you have a long enough pan--or raise it up high enough to catch the stream just before you pull the plug.

I'm going to go Amsoil synthetic once I hit 2500 miles.

By that time, it should be broken in.

I changed my oil using mobil 1 in my 03 for the first time at ~500 miles.

I switched to Mobil 1 at about 500 miles also and have not had any problems from it. I'm at 157,000 miles now, and still running strong. My throttle body came apart at 70,000 miles and the engine ate a chunk of aluminum, didn't do any damage but I pulled it apart to make sure. The cylinder walls showed virtually no signs of wear.
