A little extra noise and vibration would be considered normal. I can definatly tell when my truck is in 4wd vs. 2wd.

Both mine a pretty smooth. My 2000 K3500 is so smooth with its BorgWarner xfer case that a few times during the winter when plowing I forgot to shift it out (long day) and drove for sometime with it and did not realize it until make a tight turn and felt steering tighten up a bit and my truck has stock exhaust and is very quite too. There could be a bit of noise but vibration should not be there unless it is barely noticable. If it is more than this (you can really feel it) you may have some lose U-joints or other problems.
