Rust on bumper

Has anyone else had any problems with rust on the front bumper.

GM told me to keep it waxed. I keep the truck in the garage, it has 17,000 miles.

It is a known warranty repair or replacement. Rust coverage is in your warranty book. Show the book to the dealer.

There has been a problem with them rusting from the backside, i shot mine with some undercoating.

TELL YOUR DEALER TO LOOK AT BULLETIN #03-08-62-003A,IT CONCERNS RUST AROUND THE LICENSE PLATE HOLES AND THE AIR INTAKE HOLES,HOPE THIS HELPS!

My 03 2500HD has a little too. The dealer took off the bumper and coated the inside with POR15 (per the TSB) and it looks good now, especially since the truck is also black.

I'm having the rear bumper replaced on my '01 HD under the final warranty service. The truck is now just over three years old and has about 16.5K on it. The rear bumper has rust showing through the chrome in a few spots. It will rub out, but I told my dealer it wasn't going to last long, and the bodyshop at the dealership agreed. So... a new rear bumper is on it's way!!!

If your that close to the end of your warrenty you should get the GM extended warrenty before you run out.

Your GM dealer should fix it - I had to call GM Customer Service and give them the actual TSB bulletin. GM Rep and the service guy at the dealership couldn't believe they didn't know about the bulletin.

Anyway, a month or so after, for an issue not related to the bumper, I was talking with the local GMC dealership body shop manager (same bodyshop that did the bumper for me) - he told me GM has changed production and now coats the inside of the bumper at the factory to eliminate this issue.
