Discount Tire

Ok heres the story. I just got a set of 03 rims and plan on getting a set of BFG 255/85/R16 mud terrains. So I called discount tire to see if they had them (their website said no they had to be ordered). Guy said no they didnt have them in stock but they could have them in a few days. They needed a deposit. So i was out that way and I stopped in. I told the guy the size and he was like what vehicle is this for (add a little attitude to that line guess it isnt a common size???). I was like for a chevy pickup. He quotes me something like almost $900 for 4 tires. After I :chevy: I say how much are they each? He says $190 a tire WOOOOAAAAHHHH i had the print out (quote) from the day before I did online. $156.99 a tire. So he goes online and it comes up to $166.99 a tire (I verified when I got home and yes it did go up but I have no idea why). Then he says there is a $15 per tire shipping fee WOOOAHHH HOLD ON this is getting silly I have went other places and ordered things they didnt have in stock and didnt pay a shipping fee. I pull out the tire rack sheet (quote)$138 a tire plus $15 a tire installed. He says the best he can do is $166.99 a tire plus some fees (waive the shipping). Comes out to $715. Tire rack is a little under $650. Even though it is about an hr drive (45 min from our cottage) to south bend I am there. Man I heard good things about discount tire (especially this one) and they really disappointed me :banghead::flag:

I have not heard any good stories about Discount Tire. Tire Rack, on the other hand, has always come through for me - at least a dozen times.

I've NEVER had a problem with Discout Tire, they've gone the extra mile many a times and will cut a deal to get the business. I am happy to go there to get new tires.

$138 + $15 = $153 (this includes the mounting balancing etc.)

thats cheaper than $166.99

Hey Ryan,

You gotta call and see when the store manager will be in! Not the kid running it for a few hours but for the MAC DADDY manager.

Here's a story for ya...

I went there last fall for new Pirelli Scorpion ATs for my wife's Jeep GC. The price was the same as online but they hit me for siping and for prorated lifetime replacement. I said no to both. Then he came back and said pay for the siping and he'll give me half-off the replacement warranty. I said SURE. They finish up and I drive home all happy UNTIL I see what looks like low tire pressure. I pulled out my gauge to check em and see they didn't sipe the tires. NOW I'M MAD. Mainly because you feel like you're at a car dealer with them sometimes and that siping is cheeze wiz to begin with. (I can feel the flames comin!) I go back and pull the manager out there and asked him to find the sipes. Then I look up and I have 4 of the shop goons, I mean guys, next to me looking me down while I handed the manager his @$$ on a plate. Customers listening too. I complained the siping is just a way for them to add more to the bottom line and if I didn't check the tires, my wife would have driven them tires for a long while without us knowing. As a good manager should, he refunded the charge for the siping and told me to bring in every vehicle I own for free siping all the way around.

So a long friggin story just to say ASK FOR THE MANAGER and explain that Tire Rack is about to gain a customer.

Good luck bro,

Ed in Chicagoland

Hah yea I feel everyones pain on the Discount. I went in to have my brakes looked at. Granted my rotors were in fact toast, they still wanted about $400 bucks to change my rotors and pads. This included $25 just to repack my OLD bearings...c'mon.

I went down the local AutoZone and spend about $185. New rotors, bearings, pads and cotter pins...Truck stops great

BTW...This was an easy job. If anyone has any questions regarding this I'd be happy to answer.

When you purchase tires from Tire Rack how much does it cost to get them mounted and balanced and all that?? Is it really worth it?

$15 for all the stuff that discount tire adds into their price

So $138 + $15

So its only $15 for mounting and balencing?? Thats pretty good. Maybe I'll go this route.

EDIT...Hmm I called em a little bit ago and they said it was like 88 bucks. They were chargin' for valve stems, and tire disposal. This could still be cheaper though maybe.

That was for discount to mount my tire rack tires. I live in Houston, TX so I don't have the luxury of a Tire Rack close to me..

Well I emailed discount tire just to let them know what happened. I have had bad luck with tire places recently. Well I got a reply (on a saturday) today. They are going to have the store mgr contact me. We will see how this goes

I got the covers at www.seatsavers.com

$106.75 (this price includes shipping). They are great. I have had em about 2 yrs now

Another warning about Discount Tire: They don't use the nice Hunter load force balancer unless you specifically ask and then it's extra cost. I strongly recomment the Hunter because 1) it can reveal a bad tire [make sure you have them tell you what the data results for each tire, they can easily just go ahead and sell you a tire that is way out of range], 2) it better balances larger tires (and wheels for that matter).

Ryan, My parents live in SBend, They have purchased and had installed tires from TireRack. They are truly 1st rate!!!!

My brother also had tires from them installed, again great installation. I would truly suggest that you just spend the hour and get them there. I have not ever heard of a complaint with the Tire Rack.

Good Luck,

Steve
